every volvo i have seen under about "H" reg (and theres plenty about) have shockingly poor lights ,mine are out for refurbishing but i noticed the earth for them is probably the worst i have ever seen. it seems to be no more than a bolt carrying the earths (corroded to the extreme! i replaced them with brass eyelets) screwed onto the inner wing on which even the paint hadn't been removed to improve the contact. when i replace them those dodgy earth will be improved by running another cable back to the batteries earth bond. but is it just bad earths ? could it be poor wiring to the lights ,would it be wise to upgrade all the wiring to the headlights?. pointless fitting +50% bulbs if the result will be worse if the wires cannot carry the current to run them. then we go onto the relays are they up to the job could they be improved ,over to the experts

yes thats on a 240 but are they as bright as similar aged cars headlights:shocked: my cambelts changed so now things are going back together ,in a couple of months my baby maybe on the road! maybe. found the carbs gaskets below it are shot (very bad idle but a squirt of wd 40 spotted their shenanigans),replaced them with cornflake cardboard until i can find a real replacement for them. engine now runs smooth as silk

I would say that the 240 headlamps with new reflectors and wiring in good condition are as bright or brighter than many cars from the same era. Certainly with the bulb upgrade I find them more than adequate for night driving. Mike
