Rear electric windows.

My 89 740 estate has electric front windows, but manual rears. Does anyone know if the wiring is likely to be there for rear power windows? Obviously it will need the three switches and lift mechs for the back, but are they just a plug in thing or would i need wiring too?

the wires are all there in the drivers door, so id imagine they will be there at the back, you will just have to poke about to find them :)

The wires should be there, yes. Any 740/760/940/960 motors will fit, BUT when you get the motors, get the mating connectors also. At some point, the Volvo changed the connectors, so you may need to join the wires into the correct connector for the motor. Don't forget to pick up all the switches you need (including drivers one)

Excelent, another little project for me when i get chance. I'd already bargained on replacing the drivers switch, hence i said 3 switches above. Obviously i'll need new door cards too. Thanks for all the replies

True i could. But seeing as i'd have to take the cards off anyway to fit the lift mech, it seems sensible to put on ones without holes rather than refit the old ones?

yes it does, as long as you can get ones in good order and of the right colour! if they are tan, your prity screwed, ive hardly seen any tan cars scrapped

Mine are black, and like most estates they have a few nicks out of them from when the seats have been folded down.

ah you will be able to get black ones no problem, remember that ones for a saloon will fit too.
